On May 8, 2024, students at Altadena Arts Magnet kicked off the first Bike, Walk & Roll to School event in Altadena.

Children, parents, school administrators, and community volunteers biked from the Altadena Library to school in the morning followed by a bike skills safety assembly. Over 40 people biked to school, including Altadena Town Council Representative and bike enthusiast Dorothy Wong. California Highway Patrol gave out free bike helmets and provided road safety support and training.
“Our first ever Bike to School event gave students the opportunity to explore their community by traveling to school on bikes,” said Altadena Arts Magnet Principal Dr. Dana Hill. “Students were able to see things they never paid attention to before. They learned street names that surround their school and enjoyed the fresh air and health benefits of biking. More importantly, they learned and practiced the rules of the road and how to properly navigate streets, crosswalks, and sidewalks when on a bike or scooter.”
