Altadena is home to a host of professional musicians who regularly perform in local orchestras, opera companies, and recording studios. It is natural they want to benefit their community with free local concerts.

The MT LOWE CHAMBER PLAYERS will present a concert on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 3:00 pm. This benefit performance is at a private Altadena residence and proceeds will ensure the presentation of free chamber music concerts in Altadena.

      Limited seating

Seats are $100 and are limited. Reservations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. A reception will follow with tasty bites from some of Altadena’s top caterers such as AltaEats, MPB Catering, and Onil Chivas Events. (Contact Monica Hubbard to request a reservation form).

      Program

The MT LOWE CHAMBER PLAYERS will present Beethoven’s “Septet in Eb Major, Op. 20” and piano music of Debussy from his Preludes “Girl with the Flaxen Hair” and “General Lavine – eccentric”.

      Artists

Dmitri Bovaird (viola) has been an active violist in the LA Opera Orchestra since 1998. His passions (in addition to playing the viola) include sharing his life with his wife Maggie, kayaking on very flat water, and hiking the hills of Southern California. He performs on a 1986 G. Michael Fischer viola.

Drew Dembowski (bass) has served as Principal Bass of the Santa Barbara, Ventura and Pacific Symphonies and since 1975 has been a member of the Pasadena Symphony. He’s an avid cyclist, a skier with passion, and paraglides when time permits.

Maggie Edmondson (cello) is a member of the Long Beach Symphony and has served as Artistic Director of their chamber music series. When not immersed in her musical life, she can be found in the garden of her Altadena farmstead with her violist husband Dmitri Bovaird and their flock of happy, busy, opinionated chickens.

Antoinette Krueger Perry (piano) is a soloist and chamber musician. She’s an Artist-faculty Emeritus at the Aspen Music Festival and School. As a pedagogue, she served on the UCLA piano faculty for 14 years and has been teaching at USC’s Thornton School of Music since 1996.

John Mason (horn) is a freelance musician in the greater Los Angeles area. He records for Motion Pictures, Television and records. He also performs with the Santa Barbara Opera, Santa Barbara Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic and is Principal Horn of the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony.

Phoebe Ray (bassoon) plays bassoon with the Wilder Trio, Trimotif Ensemble, Burbank Philharmonic and plays Brazilian choro and jazz in a variety of groups.

John Steinmetz (host) teaches bassoon and chamber music at UCLA. Before retiring from performing, he played concerts and soundtracks all over southern California.

Irina Voloshina (violin) was born in the Ukraine. She is currently the Assistant Concertmaster and Acting Concertmaster and Assistant of the California Philharmonic, Pasadena Symphony and Pops, and Santa Barbara Choral Society. Irina lives in Altadena and plays on a violin made by Enrico Rocca in 1892.

Michele Zukovsky (clarinet) played clarinet in the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 54 years and is now teaching at Azusa Pacific, Cal State Long Beach, Pasadena Conservatory and Citrus College.

      First season concerts

The MT LOWE CHAMBER PLAYERS will present a series of free chamber music concerts at the Altadena Library on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm and will include a food and beverage reception.

      • Sunday, January 26, 2020 – String Quintet
      • Sunday, March (date coming soon), 2020 – Brass Ensemble
      • Sunday, May 24, 2020 – Woodwind Quintet

Mt Lowe Chamber Players is a project of the Fulcrum Arts “Emerge Fiscal Sponsorship Program.”
