The Institute for the Redesign of Learning (“IRL”) will host its inaugural Empowering All Abilities 5K Run-Walk on April 9, 2022, in South Pasadena.
By Ari Gutierrez Arambula
The 5K starts at the base of the historic Arroyo Seco Trail, located by the baseball fields at 650 Stoney Drive, South Pasadena. Participants will run or walk the trail towards the Pasadena archery area and return on the other side of the riverbed. The trail is flat with a gradual incline. Water stations will be provided at various places along the trail. Beginners, and participants who need assistance or use walkers are encouraged to start from the back. This event is chip timed for individual race accuracy. A virtual run option is offered.
“After 50 years providing services to special needs children, we are pleased to launch our new fun and fund-raising event,” explained Gabriel Vasquez, Development Associate. “As a sports coach, I can see how excited the students and their families are to participate in an event that incorporates physical activity, nature and comradery,” he added.
Registration includes t-shirt, finisher medal, and access to sampling booths and sponsor giveaways. Register in advance at IRLRunWalk.org or from 6:00 am to 7:30 am on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the Arroyo Seco South Fields. Fee is $35 for the 5K and $20 for the 1K (recommended for children under 9 years and persons with physical disabilities).
The event will also feature sampling booths from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. The race begins at 8:00 am for the 5K and 8:30 am for the 1K. The awards ceremony will be at 9:15 am.
