Postponed due to the COVID shut down, student musical comes back stronger.

      By News Desk

Students eager to get back on stage after a 2-year Covid-19 induced hiatus celebrate the local debut of Moana JR.

The Disney production will mark the second musical theatre production for the budding cast and crew of elementary school students at All Souls World Language Catholic School (All Souls) in Alhambra.

“Our production of the Lion King Kids in 2019 was so magical that our students and families wanted to do another show right away!” explained Lisa Vazquez, a parent to three students at All Souls and Co-Chair of the All Souls Arts Committee. “It is truly amazing to witness our students become such confident stage performers. I can see how the discipline they learn as part of a musical production carries over to their studies and instills in them higher aspirations,” she added.

At All Souls, parents design and make all of the costumes, stage sets and props themselves with the help of their children. “Creative arts activities foster growth and development in many aspects of our children’s education. Seeing the transformation of a blank surface turn into a finished art piece is an enjoyable accomplishment for our children. To see the artwork alongside the theatrical talent of the actors is a stunning combination,” said Claudia Lucio, parent and Co-Chair of the All Souls Arts Committee.

“Moana’s focus on cultural traditions including language is especially meaningful for our students,” states Maria-Elena Navarro, Principal. “After the Covid delays, we are so happy to have our students back at school fulltime and finally back on stage! This production comes at an important time, as its theme is quite representative of what our students are doing – finding their way back in full kinship with one another after two years of Covid difficulties,” she added.

Evening performances will be on Thursday, and Friday, April 7, 8, 2022, with a Pre-Show Lobby Experience starting at 6:00 pm. The Saturday, April 9, 2022, matinee opens at 1:30 PM with the Pre-Show Lobby Experience. The musical will be presented on campus at 29 South Electric Avenue, Alhambra, CA 91801. Tickets for livestream are also available so out-of-area families can join in the fun. Show tickets are $10 at www.ShowTix4u.com/events/AllSouls.  For information about All Souls’ dual language programs visit allsoulsla.org or call 1-626-282-5695.
