Every year since 1995, Alhambra resident Duane Aamot has transformed his front yard into a stage for over-the-top Halloween decoration.

With the support of family and friends, he uses “found things” to construct his annual Halloween offering, spooky, eerie, and fun, or the community to enjoy, free of charge!
This year’s centerpiece is a haunted pirate ship, complete with a mast and crow’s nest towering 40 feet high, making it the tallest of his elaborate Halloween designs. Mr. Aamot explained, “We’ve had a castle, a bayou, a mine shaft, a western town, and a smaller ship some years ago.” This time, it’s the haunted pirate ship, with plans for surprise sound, visual, and some strange elements that might make you say, ‘Is this voodoo?’ “We’ll go easy on the cannon with some soft puffs for the little ones,” he added, “but when the teeny teens get here, it will go BOOM!”
Trick-or-Treaters in the know arrive before sunset on All Hallows’ Eve to beat the massive crowds that show up after dark. “Jewelled-out” ghost pirates will be on deck to welcome those brave enough to walk the plank of doom on October 31, 2025, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at 911 N. Electric Ave., Alhambra. Argh!
