Join the City of South Pasadena for a Virtual Town Hall on June 12 at 6:30 pm where staff will discuss local control over housing related matters, including a discussion on a potential upcoming South Pasadena ballot measure on the November 2024 ballot.
By News Desk
Like many other surrounding cities, State housing mandates are requiring South Pasadena to do its part to allow for more housing in California. In line with requirements, the City adopted a Housing Element to meet State mandates while preserving the unique neighborhoods of South Pasadena.
The Housing Element contains certain zones that will require South Pasadena voters to consider amending height restrictions. The voters of South Pasadena adopted a 45-foot height restriction on buildings in 1983. As a citizen initiative, the measure can only be changed by South Pasadena voters. The current citywide height limit is 45 feet or about four stories. State policy is encouraging more density in construction, which often means more building height.
The City’s goal is to provide the community with as much education and resources as possible on this potential ballot measure. Residents are encouraged to join a Virtual Town Hall to hear the presentation and ask questions. If you have questions in mind, submit them to housingelement@southpasadenaca.gov. Questions submissions will also be enabled during the Virtual Town Hall.
