Recognition of the Armenian Genocide
The Sierra Madre City Council awarded a proclamation in recognition and remembrance of all those who lost their lives in the Armenian Genocide 110 years ago. Danny Donabedian, chairman of the Pasadena Armenian National Committee, attended Tuesday night’s meeting to accept the proclamation.
Adriana Perez, a representative from the office of California State Assemblymember John Harabedian, also spoke in remembrance of the genocide. She acknowledged Harabedian—who grew up in Sierra Madre—as the Chair of the California Legislative Armenian Caucus and the only Armenian member of the state legislature. Perez went on to highlight Harabedian’s continued efforts to uplift the Armenian community throughout the San Gabriel Valley and California.
New City Manager
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the Sierra Madre City Council approved the hiring of a new City Manager. Current City Manager Jose Reynoso, who has served since 2021, will resign effective Thursday, June 12.
In his place, the Council has appointed Michael Bruckner as the new City Manager. Bruckner brings extensive experience, having served as City Manager or Assistant City Manager in the cities of Rosemead, Arcadia, Palo Alto, and Culver City. He will begin his new role on Monday, July 7.
In the interim, Assistant City Manager Miguel Hernandez will serve as Acting City Manager from June 12 to July 7.
The next Sierra Madre City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24.
