Thurgood Marshall Secondary School announced Katherine (Kate) Karish as the Valedictorian for the Class of 2025.

      By Felita Kealing

Kate Karish, a dedicated and accomplished member of the Eagle Family since 6th grade, has exemplified excellence across academics, the arts, athletics, and student leadership. Enrolled in the Academy for Creative Industries on the Music Track, Kate showcased her musical talents as a trombonist in the school’s Jazz Band, earning the distinction of first chair.

Her academic achievements include being named an AP Scholar with Distinction by the College Board and reaching the elite status of National Merit Semifinalist. She also represented her school with distinction as a delegate at the prestigious California Boys and Girls State program.

A committed student-athlete, Kate competed on the Girls’ Golf Team for four years—serving as captain for two—and ran with the Cross Country Team. Her leadership extended beyond the field as she presided over several clubs, including the Jewish Club, Book Club, and Pickleball Club. She also captained the Marshall Science Bowl Team and served her peers as the Class of 2025 Senior Class Vice President.

Kate’s journey continues this fall at the University of California, Berkeley, where she plans to major in Bioengineering.
