Recent Rainstorm
Due to decreased vegetation because of the Eaton Fire, the recent rainstorm caused mudslides across Sierra Madre, specifically in the canyon. The Sierra Madre City Council addressed the mudslides in this week’s council meeting.
For mudslide information, residents can visit the Sierra Madre City website and locate the “mudslide information” tab. It will detail all updated information regarding parking, clean-up, evacuation status, and damage assessment. Additionally, it lists the numerous apps and tools residents can use to access all mudslide-related information.
Body Cameras
The City Council approved a policy requiring each Code Enforcement officers to wear a body camera during shifts. This policy offers more transparency between Code Enforcement and Sierra Madre residents and offers an added level of protection during enforcement calls.
Additionally, for resident privacy, when entering private property, and if the owner declines the officer’s permission to film on their property, officers will be required to turn off their body cameras.
It is important to note that this policy will be in effect for a 90-day trial period. Afterwards, a report will be made on the effectiveness of the body cameras, and the City Council will review the report to make a permanent decision on the policy.
Library Construction Update
The Library Improvement Project is moving forward with the construction of new sewer lines and with plans on constructing new water lines shortly.
However, the project is currently 32 to 38 days behind schedule. This is because of problems with the original 1935 blueprints of the library and setbacks caused by the recent wildfires, wind, and rain. Nonetheless, project leaders still believe construction will be finished by the January 2026 completion date.
