Neurologists to Lead Sierra Madre Talks on Memory Loss and Early Alzheimer’s Diagnosis

Residents will have two opportunities this week to learn more about memory loss and cognitive health, as The Kensington Sierra Madre hosts a pair of educational events, one in person and one virtual, focused on helping individuals and families navigate difficult questions surrounding memory issues.

– Ask the Neurologist: When Forgetfulness Goes Beyond Normal Aging

The first event, an in-person educational talk titled “Ask the Neurologist: When Forgetfulness Goes Beyond Normal Aging,” will take place Wednesday, March 18, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Kensington Sierra Madre.

Neurologist Kenneth K. Wogensen, MD, will discuss how memory changes occur and when it may be time to seek professional guidance. The presentation will focus on recognizing early signs of Mild Comparative Impairment (MCI) and understanding how those symptoms differ from normal age-related memory changes.

Attendees will also learn about the importance of early identification and management, which may help reduce the risk of progression to more serious cognitive decline.

– Virtual Workshop: The Importance of Early Diagnosis in Alzheimer’s

A second event will take place online Thursday, March 19, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The virtual workshop, “The Importance of Early Diagnosis in Alzheimer’s: Understanding New Testing Advances & Why Timing Matters,” will explore new developments in testing and diagnosis for Alzheimer’s disease.

The discussion will feature neurologist Sarah Kremen of Cedars-Sinai and licensed social worker Veronica Romo. Speakers will examine the latest advances in Alzheimer’s testing, why early awareness matters, and how timely diagnosis can help individuals and families make proactive and informed decisions.

Presenters will also discuss the role caregivers and loved ones play in recognizing early warning signs, advocating for evaluation, and providing support throughout the course of the disease.

Organizers say that with emerging diagnostic tools and new testing methods offering greater clarity, early detection can significantly influence care planning, treatment options, and overall quality of life.
