Last year the California legislature passed a bill, the River Ranger Program (AB 1558), to develop a network of river rangers who will assist the public at sites along the Los Angeles River and its tributaries including the Arroyo Seco.
The role of the rangers is to enhance public safety, environmental stewardship and community involvement in the Los Angeles River Watershed.
The program will take a broad watershed approach and include not just the concrete-lined main stem of the Los Angeles River but also the tributaries, like the Arroyo Seco and Tujunga Canyon, that are important to the river and its health.
The River Ranger Program is being put together by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) and the Rivers & Mountains Conservancy (RMC), and they have asked for the public input about how to style the most effective program.
