California State Senator Sasha Renée Pérez (D-Pasadena) is calling for the immediate release of Rami Othmane, a Pasadena resident who was detained by federal immigration authorities earlier this month.

According to a statement released by Senator Pérez, Othmane was apprehended by masked immigration agents on July 13 in Pasadena and was initially held in downtown Los Angeles before being transferred to a detention facility in Arizona.
Othmane, who is reportedly undergoing treatment for cancer and is in the process of applying for a Permanent Resident Card, has allegedly been denied necessary medical care while in custody. His wife is the Chief Medical Officer at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena.
“This President and the federal administration have no human compassion,” Senator Pérez said in her statement. “Mr. Othmane has no criminal record and is a valuable member of our community. The indiscriminate and violent immigration enforcement is cruel and misguided.”
Pérez condemned the federal government’s immigration practices and urged national leaders to work toward comprehensive reform. “We are a nation of immigrants,” she said. “The federal government should be working together to pass sensible immigration reform that would allow our good neighbors to openly contribute to our nation’s prosperity and wellbeing.”
There has been no public comment yet from federal immigration authorities regarding Othmane’s case.

Our current government is racist. The funny thing is a few Whites have been caught up in this, too like the guy from Mississippi who said he still supports Trump and his deporting everyone else, but now he’s going back to Denmark most likely. If Trump gets his wish and all the non-Whites get deported, because he plans to go after citizens next, those of us that are married to non-Whites are leaving, too. We will take all of our money, all of our skills, and never look back. And that kind of hit to the economy along with tariffs and tax cuts for the top will mean a major recession and possibly even a depression for a LONG time. I hope it’s worth it to all of these racists.
