POETRY CORNER – The Regional Reading
– 10/18/17
Hosted by Kathabela Wilson
Many of us in these complicated times feel the strength and anticipation that a new adventure gives, broadening our horizons, outward and inward. We let go of the past and take new steps. Our wonderful poet today is an adventurer in many ways. She surprises us with her metaphors, and how she sees the world and pictures it. Her bright sensitivity of expression encourages us to see what we usually see –in new ways. She spans two regions, the North Carolina mountains and in Florida, the new river that she has come to love.
This is the twenty-first in our series of Regional Reading haiku Poetry Corners featuring haiku poets who visited Santa Fe, New Mexico in September for Haiku North America 2017*. I have a couple of interesting “epilogues” before we move on to new adventures!

Sandi Pray
I spend lots of time in the wilds of North Carolina mountains but I also just recently moved to a river in North Florida. Riverlife is just as wonderful as mountainlife. So, in the interest of new beginnings.
river sunrise…
I am an early riser. And one morning just after we moved to the river I was having my tea on the porch just as the sun was gloriously rising through the hanging moss. Birds singing, water whispering, leaves rustling, squirrels chattering, my heart smiling. No matter the season, every morning here sings..
gray morning..
The loveliness of fog flowing down river..now my world is a cocoon of softness and safety. I am alone with the natural world, my every sense unburdened by preconceptions. Into this gray quiet..a red canoe..
reflections..
Life around the edges of a river marsh is always waiting. Fish linger in shadows, frogs watch for bugs, egrets watch for frogs and turtles soak up the warmth of sun on a log. And water reflects everything we do. Occasionally two reflections come together.
Sandi Pray is a retired high school librarian living a quiet life in the wilds of the North Carolina mountains and river marshes of North Florida. As a vegan she is a lover of all life and an environmental advocate. Her haiku/haiga can be seen on her blog.
