While the graffiti appears to have been intended as a condemnation of hate and discrimination, PCC officials stressed that vandalism is not an acceptable means of expression. In a joint statement, Superintendent-President José A. Gómez, and Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Kari Bolen, reaffirmed the college’s policies and values.
“While we recognize the intent may have been to condemn hate, vandalism and graffiti negatively impact our community, violate campus policy, and are crimes,” the statement read. “We also recognize that hateful images are disturbing and hurtful.”
The college reiterated its commitment to opposing all forms of hate and discrimination, urging the community to foster dialogue, education, and mutual respect instead of resorting to defacement.
The PCC Police Department is actively investigating the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the department at (626) 585-7484. Anonymous tips may also be submitted via the Lancer Anonymous Tip Reporting system.
College officials concluded with a message of unity: “Let us instead continue to foster dialogue, education, and respect within our community to stand against hate together.”
