Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) is gearing up to celebrate Public Power Week, a nationwide observance held annually during the first week of October. This year’s celebration will take place October 5–11, 2025, in partnership with the American Public Power Association (APPA) and other publicly owned utilities (POUs) across the country.

Public Power Week is an opportunity for communities to recognize the unique benefits of public power utilities—locally owned, not-for-profit organizations that prioritize service, reliability, and sustainability over profit. For Pasadena residents, that means being served by a utility focused on competitive rates, responsiveness, and environmental stewardship.
“As a community-owned utility, we’re proud to help Pasadena residents and businesses save energy, lower costs, and build a more sustainable future together,” said David Reyes, General Manager of PWP. “Delivering reliable and environmentally responsible service is at the heart of our mission.”
To mark the occasion, PWP is hosting several free, family-friendly events aimed at educating and engaging the community:
Storytime and Touch-a-Truck with a Lineman
- Tuesday, Oct. 7, 10:15 am – 11:00 am
- Hastings Branch Library, 3325 E. Orange Grove Blvd.
Enjoy a live storybook reading by real PWP linemen, and get an up-close look at a utility vehicle. This event is open to all ages, with a special recommendation for toddlers aged 18–36 months.
Electric Circuit Activity
- Tuesday, Oct. 7, 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm
- La Pintoresca Branch Library, 1355 N. Raymond Ave.
Kids and families can explore the basics of how electrical circuits work through hands-on activities. All ages are welcome, with a recommended age range of 5 to 12 years.
These events highlight PWP’s commitment not only to providing reliable service but also to investing in community engagement and education.
