What is Net Neutrality?
Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers and governments regulating the Internet should treat all data on the Internet the same, not discriminating or charging differentially by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or mode of communication.1
What would happen if we lose Net Neutrality?
Without Net Neutrality, activists will lose the ability to fight against oppression, and social movements’ sites may be blocked or their content restricted if big companies are given the ability to decide who’s heard and who’s not!
Also, internet service providers will have the ability to let incumbents succeed while silencing others.
Who’s behind the attack on Net Neutrality?
- Big phone companies.
- Cable companies.
- Their lobbyists.
What can you do?
The FCC wants to destroy net neutrality and give big cable companies control over what we see and do online.
On July 12th, the Internet is coming together in order to stop them.
