The City of Monterey Park invites the community to gather at Barnes Park on Saturday, January 17, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm for Resiliency Day, a heartfelt event designed to promote healing, remembrance, and renewal.
By Melanie Hooks
This special day will bring the community together to honor the strength of those affected by the January 2023 incident, while offering a space for connection, reflection, and hope.
Under the theme “Together We Heal. Together We Grow Stronger,” Resiliency Day will feature a variety of activities aimed at fostering both emotional and physical well-being. The event is free and open to all ages, making it a family-friendly experience.
A Day of Connection and Reflection
Attendees can expect a wide range of activities to help nurture the body, mind, and spirit. For those looking to tap into their creative side, there will be opportunities for taiko drumming, tai chi, and karaoke. The day will also feature meditative experiences such as sound baths, music therapy, and poetry writing, all designed to offer moments of introspection and healing.
A key component of Resiliency Day is the Resiliency Fair, where community organizations will provide valuable resources and support. Representatives from mental health services, physical health organizations, and social service providers will be available for one-on-one consultations, offering assistance and guidance for those seeking information and support.
For younger attendees, the day will be filled with fun and engaging activities, including crafts, bubbles, and sensory play, ensuring that children have a chance to participate in the community celebration as well.
A Community-Powered Event
Resiliency Day is being hosted by the City of Monterey Park, in collaboration with the Chinatown Service Center. The event is a reflection of the city’s ongoing commitment to supporting its residents and fostering a resilient, compassionate community.
