The Monterey Park City Council is scheduled to consider next steps toward a potential citywide prohibition on data centers at its upcoming meeting on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

During the 6:30 pm meeting at Monterey Park City Hall, councilmembers will take up Agenda Item 9A, which proposes directing the City Manager and City Attorney to prepare a ballot proposition for future City Council consideration. The proposed ballot measure would prohibit data centers throughout the city and expand housing options in Saturn Park.
If approved, staff would return with a draft ballot proposition at the March 4, 2026 City Council meeting. Discussion on February 4 is expected to be tied to the city’s current moratorium on data center applications, including its timeline and possible next steps.
The consideration follows action taken by the City Council on January 21, 2026, when it unanimously adopted a 45-day moratorium halting the processing or acceptance of new data center applications. A public hearing to consider extending that moratorium is expected to be scheduled for March 4, 2026.
The February 4 meeting may also include discussion on what a citywide data center prohibition could entail and how a proposed ban would be placed before voters in the November 2026 election.
The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at Monterey Park City Hall, located at 320 West Newmark Avenue.
