South Pasadena and Pasadena residents advised of increased crossing gate activity.

As Los Angeles prepares to welcome global audiences for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Metro will be conducting testing exercises to simulate increased train frequencies along the Metro A Line.
Residents of South Pasadena and Pasadena should be aware that these exercises will temporarily increase the frequency of railroad crossing gate activations at at-grade crossings. The tests aim to evaluate the system’s readiness for the high passenger volumes expected during major international events.
The test exercises are scheduled to occur on the following dates and times:
- Sunday, June 1, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- Monday, June 9, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Metro A Line service will continue to operate at all stations during these periods. However, local traffic in areas surrounding at-grade crossings in South Pasadena and Pasadena may experience temporary delays due to the more frequent activation of crossing gates.
City officials and Metro representatives are encouraging residents, drivers, and pedestrians to plan ahead and exercise caution near rail crossings during the test windows.
“These exercises are critical to ensuring the safe and efficient movement of people during some of the largest events our region will host this decade,” Metro said in a statement.
More updates will be shared via Metro’s official communication channels as the testing dates approach.
