On the morning of Friday, March 9th, 2018, parents and community members will stand together around Blair School to say enough.

This peaceful demonstration is aimed to demonstrate commitment to keeping the community’s children and their educators safe. The demonstration will happen in the front of a school (see list below) after drop off. Once the second bell has rung and the students and teachers are inside their classrooms, members of the community are planning to link arms or joins hands around the campus and stand together. The organizers have put out a statement urging everyone’s participation in linking “Arms Around Our Kids”:

Our children deserve to be in school. Our teachers deserve to do their jobs without having to risk their lives. We are simply asking to #Give Us Tomorrow with our kids.

Demonstrations are happening on this day throughout the PUSD community in Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre, and the PTA units are requesting as many community members as possible show up at their local school to participate in the event. Blair High School will have a special role as it will host a number of elected and community leaders who will briefly speak to the issues surrounding campus violence. The following are scheduled to attend:

      • US Congresswoman Judy Chu
      • CA state senator Anthony Portantino
      • First District of California PTA president Sandy Russell
      • Mayor Terry Tornek
      • Councilmember Andy Wilson

Pasadena individual schools'event timeThe March 9th date was chosen before the other local and national protests that will be happening. Understanding that students may want to participate in upcoming walk outs they may have heard about, the organizers wanted to demonstrate their commitment to the students’ safety, as they feel students shouldn’t have to walk out!

If you plan to attend, make sure to arrive early to allow for time to park. You may bring signs or make t‑shirts that support the message of keeping children, schools, and communities safe.
