Mt. Lowe Chamber Players bassoonist, composer, and Altadenan John Steinmetz will guide the chamber through a concert of 18th Century Wind Serenades and Opera Arrangements by Mozart and Beethoven on March 17.
By News Desk
Opera arrangements were very popular before recording and television. Often a quick arrangement would be made following an opera so everyone could enjoy hearing the music again in a chamber music setting. The Wind Octet will play an opera arrangement from that era of “The Marriage of Figaro” by Mozart.
The free performance by the Mt. Lowe Players will be held at the Altadena Main Library, at 3:00 pm on March 17.
Musicians will include Jonathan Davis & Catherine Del Russo (oboes), Jim Foschia & Helen Goode (clarinets), Duncan Massey & Phoebe Ray (bassoons), and John Mason & Suzette Moriarty (horns). The Mt. Lowe musicians are from Altadena and adjacent communities. They perform with many area ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, LA Chamber Orchestra, LA Opera, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Riverside Philharmonic, Burbank Symphony, and Long Beach Municipal Band.
