In honor of Don Bachardy–lifelong lover of movies and artist behind “Don Bachardy: A Life in Portraits”–the Huntington will screen one of his favorites, All About Eve (1950), costarring Bette Davis and Anne Baxter.
By Katlyn Ong
“Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night.” Celebrate Don Bachardy and the scheming antics of ingenue Eve Harrington (Baxter) as she worms her way into the life of Broadway star Margo Channing (Davis) in this classic tale of ambition and betrayal.
All About Eve has remained one of Don Bachardy’s favorite movies since he snuck into the 1950 premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre with his brother, Ted. He would go on to draw Bette Davis several times, including in 1973, when she said of her portrait, “Yup, that’s the old bag!”
The evening will begin with an introduction by Bernardo Rondeau, former Founding Director of Film Programs at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and former Film Curator at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. A showing of All About Eve will follow, with a run time of 138 minutes.
Upon arrival, check in with Education staff at the Huntington’s Rothenberg Hall beginning at 5:30 pm. Bring registration confirmation. No food or drinks are allowed inside the theater.
