Four local area schools are recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2019.

The awards announced by the U.S. Department of Education are based on academic performance and improvements on standardized tests and graduation rates.

Two of the Blue Ribbon Schools are in South Pasadena, one is in Arcadia and one is in the La Crescenta-Montrose area. The schools receiving the designation are:

South Pasadena Unified School District
- Arroyo Vista Elementary School
  335 El Centro St.
  South Pasadena, CA 91030
- Monterey Hills Elementary School
  1624 Vía Del Rey
  South Pasadena, CA 91030
Arcadia Unified School District
- Longley Way Elementary School
  2601 Longley Way
  Arcadia, CA 91007
Glendale Unified School District
- Monte Vista Elementary School
  2620 Orange Ave.
  La Crescenta-Montrose, CA 91214
The four schools are among 372 across the nation chosen for the distinction.
