Song of the North features 483 handmade puppets and projected animation (Photo – Pasadena Playhouse)
It’s not every day that Pasadena audiences can experience a cast of over 400 puppets, but this weekend the stunning “Song of the North” will do just that. Sure to be a sold-out series.
Created by visionary artist Hamid Rahmanian, Song of the North uses shadow puppetry and projected animation to reimagine the Persian epic Shahnameh. At its heart is Manijeh, a fierce heroine navigating a world of mythical beasts who must use all her strengths and talents to rescue her beloved, Bijan, from a perilous predicament. The show is created with children ages 6-12 and their families in mind, but is sure to appeal to anyone who loves folktales and artistry.
Hamid Rahmanian’s Song of the North is an epic love story with a cast of 483 handmade puppets and a talented ensemble of actors and puppeteers, all coming together to create powerful theater for young minds ready to explore heroism, heritage, and imaginative storytelling.
