Many of our advertisers are local businesses that have been impacted directly by the fire. Some suffered extensive damage, while others were completely destroyed, and all have had to close their doors. Out of respect for our community, we immediately removed all advertisements the day after the fire and transformed our site to provide live updates. We felt it would be inappropriate to run ads while our friends, colleagues, and neighbors were being evacuated and displaced.

As residents of the area, we too have been affected; unlike some, we don’t outsource our operations overseas. Our priority has been to keep you and ourselves informed with timely, reliable updates from credible sources.

        Dear Friends:
Like you, we are devastated by the many losses sustained by our beloved community this past week in the Eaton Fire. Our hearts are broken, and we are so sorry to learn that many of our loyal customers, friends, and neighbors’ homes, were in the path of the fires and sustained incalculable losses. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today and always.

We love you and cannot wait to welcome you back to the store.
        Holding you in our thoughts,
        Michael, Meredith, and Team Webster’s.

        Ash Cleanup

The City of South Pasadena urges residents to take precautions when cleaning up ash from wildfires. Ash particles are usually bigger than smoke particles, but can still cause health problems. People with heart or lung diseases, older adults, children, and pregnant women should use special caution around ash.
        When cleaning up ash:
         • Wear a tight-fitting disposable respirator (such as a N-95 or P-100 respirator mask) to protect your lungs.
         • Wear goggles, gloves, long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes and socks to avoid skin contact.
         • Mist lightly with water and then sweep gently with a broom or wet mop. Direct ash-filled water to ground areas and away from the storm drains. Don’t use leaf blowers!
         • Collect ash into a plastic bag and dispose in the regular trash.
         • Inside your home, use a vacuum with a HEPA filter or, if possible, similar industrial ones with disposable collection filter bags. Misting lightly with water and then sweeping gently with a broom is another option.
         • Take your car to the car wash.
         • Wash off toys.
         • Clean ash off pets.

        • In anticipation of the forecasted wind event, Large and Very Large Airtankers flew retardant dropping missions along the ridgelines to the west and northwest of the fire.
        • Tonight, engines, dozers, and hand crews are staged in the communities and foothills near the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, ready to respond if needed.
        • Acres burned: 14117
        • Containment: 33%
        • Structures Threatened: 39,428

        Current Situation

Urban Search and Rescue efforts, infrastructure assessments, hazardous material response, and damage assessment operations are ongoing for the communities on the southern edge of the fire. These operations are unprecedented in size and scale and are critical for mitigating existing hazards, confirming missing persons reports, and obtaining accurate number of structures loss.

        Damage Assessment

Damage estimates from remote sensing technologies indicate over 7,000 structures may have been damaged or destroyed. While this is a preliminary estimate, the number of structures damaged and destroyed listed at the top of this page have been verified by on-the-ground damage inspection teams. Damage inspection teams have completed inspections for 30% of all structures within the fire footprint.

        Weather

The fire area will remain under a Red Flag Warning through early Wednesday. Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to strong northeast and downslope winds combined with very low humidity. The highest risk of these conditions spreading to lower elevations will occur late Monday night through midday Tuesday.
