The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is investigating a confirmed case of measles linked to an international traveler who was infectious while passing through Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) earlier this month.

According to officials, the traveler arrived on China Airlines Flight #008 at the Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B), gate 153, on the evening of August 2. The individual was considered infectious at the time. Public Health warns that anyone who was in Terminal B between 9:30 p.m. on August 2 and 12:35 a.m. on August 3 may have been exposed to the measles virus.
Efforts are underway to identify additional potential exposure sites throughout Los Angeles County. In collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), passengers seated near the infected traveler will be notified by their local health departments.
Health officials are urging anyone who may have been exposed to verify their immunity status. Individuals are considered protected against measles if they meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Received two doses of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine
- Have laboratory-confirmed immunity
- Have had measles in the past
Unvaccinated individuals, those unsure of their vaccination status, or those with no history of measles are advised to monitor for symptoms through August 23, 2025, and to consult a healthcare provider immediately if symptoms develop. These can include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash that typically appears several days after the onset of initial symptoms.
Officials stress that individuals should call their doctor before seeking in-person care to help prevent further potential exposure to others.
Anyone who remains symptom-free for 21 days after exposure is no longer considered at risk for developing measles.
