Caltech was dethroned from the top spot of World Universities Top Rankings by a British University, and came in second place.

The University of Oxford took the top spot of the rankings followed by Pasadena’s California Institute of Technology. It’s a change from past years where Caltech took the number one spot five years in a row, according to Times Higher Education World University Rankings (WUR).
This is the first time a UK university takes the top spot in the list’s twelve year history. That honor usually goes to a U.S. university. Oxford’s success is partially due to the institution’s “total income and research income [that] is rising faster than its staff numbers, its research is more influential, and it has been more successful at drawing in international talent” according to WUR site.
Incidentally, the Princeton Review ranked Caltech in 2016 as the best college that pays you back without the need for aid.
