The Huntington is home to a new permanent installation known as Borderlands. This new installation explores a more expansive and contextualized view of America’s art history.
By Nicole Bernard
Borderlands will highlight more than 70 works and will include a variety of paintings, sculptures, decorative art objects and video installations. This installation will also debut new works and acquisitions by women including those of Native American and Latinx artists. Additionally, the new installation will highlight artwork between the 19th and early 20th century from artists such as Mary Cassatt, Frederic Edwin Church, Thomas Eakins, and Winslow Homer. Unlike any previous installations, “Borderlands” is organized thematically and will feature an education room where visitors can learn about locally sourced botanical-and mineral-based pigments.
The next installment was developed with the partnership of contemporary artists Enrique Martinez and Sandy Rodriguez. With the assistance of Enrique and Sandy, loans were secured to help re-imagine the historical collections from multiple perspectives.
The new installation opened to the public November 20. For more information visit huntington.org.
