Bodegon 69 is nestled among several other restaurants between Holly and Union. You could miss it easily, but please don’t!
My best friend and I were interested in trying out the free sangrias advertised in their ad, so we thought we’d give them a try and are truly glad we did! We began our meal with empanadas, ordering the chicken rather than the beef. These were the most delicious empanadas we’ve ever tasted – moist and flavorful – and included bits of olive and egg which added to their complex flavor profile. They were served with a flavorful fresh salsa and a small dish of spicy green chili sauce. Although they were delicious on their own, it was fun to add the various accompaniments.
Lomo Saltado – a rich beef dish with vegetables – was so delicious we could have eaten more than the generous portion served. The certified Angus sirloin meat was tender and juicy, sautéed with tomatoes and red and green onions. As is the custom, both rice and French fries were served as sides. We also ordered Chancho Al Palo, a moist and flavorful marinated pork dish, topped with the most delicate chicharron imaginable. The platter also included plantains and potatoes. An additional side we tried was choclo, a traditional dish made of Peruvian corn with a nutty flavor.
All of the dishes ordered were cooked to perfection. Wait staff was friendly and professional and entrees are under $25. We will definitely be back to try more of their fantastic food!
