Warning: No matter how partial the eclipse appears to be, it is NOT a good idea to stare directly at the sun.
A partial solar eclipse is expected to darken the skies on Thursday.
The best time to watch in our area is at 2:08 pm.
Other parts of the country can view the eclipse at the following times:
- San Francisco: 1:52 p.m.
- Seattle: 1:35 p.m.
- Phoenix: 2:21 p.m.
- Dallas: at 4:48 p.m.
- Denver: 3:18 p.m.
- Chicago: 4:36 p.m.
- Boston, New York, Washington D.C. and Atlanta: 5:45 and 6 p.m.
How to safely watch
You can watch the eclipse while protecting your eyes in the process by doing one of the following:
- Use glasses that are equipped with special solar filters.
- Use a rectangular arc-welder’s glass (purchased at a welding supply store).
- Through a pinhole projector (learn how to make one at JPL‘s website).
- Live online at Slooh Community Observatory website beginning around 2:15 p.m. PST.
