On August 9th and 10th, the Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive, and it is strongly encouraged that eligible young people donate blood, to counteract the nationwide blood shortage. (See details below).
Director of the Altadena Library District Nikki Winslow spoke on a growing need for volunteers, as well as recruitment for the Youth and Family Services Department. There was also an update on the status of the Bob Lucas Library, which is set to finish renovations in May of next year.
Along with the development of Charles White Park, there is an exhibition of the legacy of Charles White and his art in the community room of the Main Altadena Library. Winslow also expressed immense gratitude to the Altadena Historical Society and their efforts to create a community-driven art piece in the form of a quilt.
Kenia Estrella reported that the Eaton Canyon’s Nature Center has had wildly successful events in the past few weeks, with around 700 people participating in the Bark Rangers event, as well as A Day in Nature, and their first Pride Outside event, which featured plant walks and nature journaling.
Another update presented by Estrella, was their news of the Animal Welfare Grant, in which they were awarded $10,000 to further their research, invest in bear-proof trash bins, and invest in taxidermy to improve their programs at the Nature Center.
On November 2nd, Altadena will host a Dia De Los Muertos celebration in Eaton Canyon.
