In the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, the lead character sees how his fictional hometown of Bedford Falls would be so different had he never been born. It’s a timeless message of the significant difference each individual can make in the lives of others. During the holiday season, the movie serves as an annual reminder of how caring for each other and for our community can add value to our lives and the lives of those around us.
In northeast Alhambra, there is a little version of Bedford Falls – Lindaraxa Court with its historic columns and charming homes. In the center is a grassy knoll that doubles as a small park for neighbors to gather to share news about civic happenings, Fourth of July celebrations, and occasional birthday parties.
One of the neighbors in this corner of the San Gabriel Valley, Marisol Grier, and her family host their annual Old Fashioned Christmas community gathering for the holidays. Their house at 815 Lindaraxa Park North (access from N. Granada Ave., north of Main St.) is lighted with thousands of bright and twinkling holiday lights for families to enjoy throughout the season. On Saturday, December 16, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, neighbors are invited to stroll by, have some cocoa, enjoy an old-fashioned horse and carriage ride, get a selfie with Santa, and meet other neighbors.
