A Winter Solstice Celebration with music (mostly original) will take place at Throop Hall Saturday, Dec. 17 at 7:00 pm.
By George Patton
Debra Penberthy, a musician with an incredible voice and a huge talent for writing musical pieces, both traditional and avant-garde, teamed up with musician friends from LA Philharmonic, USC, and others, to write a Winter Solstice, a set of pieces involving children, actors, and dancers.
The concert will begin in the sanctuary and will move to the Fellowship Hall, where dessert and spirited beverages will be served.
The concert will include original, neo-medieval chant based works, classical pieces, and popular songs (including the late, great Leonard Cohen). The line up includes Debra, Chris Payne (multi-focus percussion), Steve Thachuk (classical and electric guitar), Sarah Wass (flute), Jim Sullivan (bass clarinet), Josh Jerkosky (bass), Alan Ishii (piano), and Julia Schaeffer (modern dance).
The concert is FREE but a donation of $10 to $100 is suggested. Proceeds will benefit the historic Throop Building Fund. Payment accepted by cash, check, and credit card.
Limited parking is available in the Throop lot for those with limited mobility. Street parking is available in the neighborhood, and there is a city lot on Los Robles North of the church with parking for a fee.
Children are welcome and encouraged to attend!
