PASADENA — ColoradoBoulevard.net:
Jones Coffee Roasters, the beloved Café in Vroman’s Bookstore, pours its last Latte on January 23rd, 2022.
By George Patton
The revered routines of a warm cup of Roasted Bliss, by the side of a laptop, or favorite book, will go the way of other Colorado Blvd. Comforts. No more Beany Boosters, topped with creamy hearts. Goodbye, Jones! It has been a Roasted pleasure!
The other Jones Coffee locations in South Pasadena, the “Hub” drive-thru (680 South Arroyo) and on South Raymond in Pasadena will continue to be open for our Coffee Pleasures!
No word yet on what might follow in the space, but we hope it will be equally prose-worthy.
Update: The Crush Pad
We contacted Chuck Jones, owner of Jones Coffee, and he responded with the following statement:
We love being part of the Playhouse District and enjoyed a long relationship with Vroman’s Bookstore. Unfortunately, sales have not recovered since COVID started and we are still down 70% from 2019.
He thanked ColoradoBoulevard.net for its support of local businesses and reflected on the future: “We don’t know what the future will hold, but we do plan to add more hours to and improve efficiency at our other locations. There may be a new addition on the horizon at our Raymond location called ‘The Crush Pad’ with homegrown wine from our family in Paso Robles and beyond. Thank you for supporting local independent businesses in your reporting.”
Jones Coffee roastery was established by Chuck and Larry Jones in 1994. As the retail/café side of the business grew, so did the need for seating. When they exceeded the City’s specified seating limit, die-hard customers began bringing in their own “talking chairs” to assure they’d have a place to sit and talk with friends the next time they came in. The Jones Coffee Roasters logo is inspired by this act of community building.
