The longest day of the year started with a great hike to the summit of Mount Lowe, where early rising hikers watched the sun rise over Pasadena -and Los Angeles in the far distance- and was topped off with great musical events in the evening.
The weekend ended with a birthday bash for a great looking 128 year old city.

Saturday evening:
Summer Solstice’s evening brought great music to One Colorado, as part of KCRW’s Summer Nights Concerts event. DJ Marion Hodges opened the show and then Kan Wakan took the stage serenading the crowd with their melodic hypnotic music.

Meanwhile, at Levitt Pavilion, Batala Los Angeles group got the crowd on their feet with their synchronized drumming. They left the stage toward the end of their performance and joined the audience sending everyone into a frenzy of dance and music celebration. Original Afro Funké DeeJays Jeremy Sole & Glenn Red kept everyone dancing throughout the evening. Jungle Fire ushered the night with their electrifying performance.
Sunday afternoon:
Pasadena’s 128th Birthday Bash started with an early cutting of the cake ceremony by Mayor Bill Bogaard joined with City Council Members and surrounded by city dignitaries.
A hot summer day greeted city residents at the bash with fun activities (see Pasadena’s Birthday Bash for more details).
