This evening, Friday, August 15, community members will gather outside the Home Depot in Monrovia for a vigil honoring the life of a jornalero (day laborer), later identified as Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez, who died yesterday while crossing a freeway, reportedly fleeing from ICE. The vigil will also recognize the contributions and sacrifices of all immigrant workers.

The vigil, described by organizers as a space to honor those who “live, labor, and love in our communities,” will begin at 5:30 p.m. at 1625 S. Mountain Ave. (Home Depot).
Organizers say the event is part of a broader call for dignity and visibility for day laborers and immigrant workers throughout the region.
Pasadena Rally
Continuing these efforts, a rally is scheduled for tomorrow morning, Saturday, August 16, at the Home Depot in Pasadena, located at 2881 E. Walnut St. That event will begin at 9:00 am.
Both gatherings aim to shed light on the daily realities faced by immigrant workers and to foster solidarity within the broader community.
