A tragic construction accident claimed the life of a man in his late 20s on Thursday afternoon when a retaining wall collapsed in a residential backyard in the 500 block of Sierra Meadow.

The Sierra Madre Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 emergency call shortly after 1:00 pm. Upon arrival, crews found the worker trapped beneath the collapsed structure. Despite the combined efforts of responding teams from Pasadena Fire Department and Arcadia Fire Department, the injuries sustained were fatal, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity, pending notification of his family.
The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA) and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office have been dispatched to investigate the incident. Sierra Madre’s Building Official was also on-site to inspect the construction project and determine any potential code violations or safety hazards.
The investigation is ongoing.
