The Pasadena Public Health Department (PPHD) is urging all residents aged six months and older to receive the updated COVID-19 vaccine, in alignment with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Health officials emphasize that the vaccine remains a safe and effective tool for preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death, particularly among older adults, young children, pregnant women, and individuals with underlying medical conditions.
“The Pasadena Public Health Department encourages everyone who is eligible to get their vaccine as soon as possible,” said Acting Health Officer Dr. Parveen Kaur. “Getting vaccinated enhances community protection against the spread of COVID-19, reducing the incidence of preventable severe illness, hospitalization, and possibly death.”
Residents aged 65 and older can receive the vaccine through their healthcare providers or local pharmacies. However, availability may vary, and not all pharmacies may carry the vaccine. Residents are encouraged to confirm supply and schedule an appointment in advance.
Individuals under 65 with medical conditions that increase their risk of severe illness are also eligible for vaccination. Steps for obtaining the vaccine include contacting pharmacies to verify availability and eligibility or consulting with healthcare providers regarding access and potential prescriptions.
As of June 6, 2025, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) lists several qualifying conditions, including asthma, diabetes (types 1 and 2), heart conditions, HIV, chronic kidney disease, and others. This list is not exhaustive, and individuals should consult their healthcare provider to determine their eligibility.
“We are fortunate to have a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine available to reduce the risk of severe illness,” said Director of Public Health Manuel Carmona. “We continue to work with state and public health partners to promote vaccine access to everyone age 6 months and older.”
PPHD is collaborating with the California Department of Public Health and local agencies to ensure vaccine access for all residents, including those under 65 without qualifying conditions, as well as individuals who are uninsured or underinsured. Additional updates on vaccine availability will be shared as more information becomes available.
In addition to vaccination, PPHD recommends regular handwashing, wearing a well-fitted N95 mask, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick to help reduce the spread of illness in the community.
