After a full year of reviewing architectural designs and getting permits, construction on Blossom Market Hall in the San Gabriel Mission District has begun. Chris and Nellie Tran have secured 13 vendors for a wide variety of food and drinks.

The City of San Gabriel required preservation of the historic architecture of the old Masonic Lodge, so the exterior of the building will remain the same. The biggest structural change is taking down the center interior wall to combine two large rooms for the food hall. In the back, one of the walls will be opened and sliding glass doors installed leading to an outdoor patio.
In the main food hall, all the old acoustic ceiling tiles will be replaced with new tiles with a mural painted on them. The lighting designers have specified track lighting over the food stalls for a softer look, especially in the evenings. At night, lights also will highlight the architecture features of the outside of the building, important in the Mission District where there are so many historical buildings. Several of the art deco interior light fixtures will be retained but repurposed in different areas of the building.

A newly installed elevator will connect the two floors. On the second floor, tiles will be removed to expose the original ceiling and bricks will be removed from the windows to bring in more natural light. The smaller upstairs room will be used for relaxing with a cup of coffee, and a larger room will be available for a rotating art gallery and for meetings. A mezzanine also will be added to provide an open view of the food hall.
The Trans are planning to open the Blossom Food Hall in the Summer 2020.
