A months-long investigation into the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Ivan Jeremy Cervantes Cruz of El Monte has led to the arrest of two suspects, Pasadena police announced.

On March 26, 2025, at approximately 6:16 pm, officers responded to reports of a crash and gunfire in the 700 block of Rio Grande Street. Cervantes Cruz was discovered inside a vehicle that had collided with the north curb line. First responders from the Pasadena Police Department and the Pasadena Fire Department attempted life-saving measures, but Cervantes Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Unit (RHU) launched an immediate investigation. Following extensive work and multiple investigative leads, RHU detectives, with assistance from the Inglewood Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested two suspects on May 29, 2025.
The suspects, 18-year-old Tion Tino Simmons of Temple City and 18-year-old Jeffrey Hamilton of Altadena, were taken into custody and charged with one count each of murder under California Penal Code 187(a). The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed charges on June 2 under court case #25PDCF00358. Bail for each suspect has been set at $2,000,000.
