A Palestinian Leap of Faith
Palestinians have lived in the ancient walled city of Akka, Israel for many generations, enduring hardship, injustice and economic stress. Now they are being pressured to give up their homes to make way for urban development, social change and the ongoing influx of Israeli settlers. Their individual and collective stories are featured in this month’s Conscientious Projector documentary, It’s Better to Jump, showing on Thursday, February 13, 7:00 p.m. at The Armory Center for the Arts. The film’s title refers to the perilous rite of passage of leaping from the city’s highest wall (40’) into the tempestuous Haifa Bay, symbolizing Palestinian aspirations for self-determination, personal freedom and cultural preservation.
Filmmaker Patrick A. Stewart joins us for a community discussion following the movie. The event is being cosponsored by All Saints Church’s Middle East Ministry. Admission is free and the facility is accessible to disabled persons.
