A sweeping wave of nationwide protests is set to unfold this Saturday, October 18, under the banner “No Kings,” as Americans rally against what organizers describe as an alarming slide toward authoritarianism. Demonstrations are planned in all 50 states, with prominent local gatherings taking place in Pasadena, Alhambra, and Sierra Madre.

      By Rena Kurlander

Thousands are expected to gather at Pasadena City Hall (100 Garfield Ave.), Alhambra Park (500 N. Palm Ave.), and Kersting Court in Sierra Madre (1 Baldwin Ave.) as part of a growing grassroots movement in defense of democracy, civil liberties, and the First Amendment right to peaceful assembly.

Organizers of the No Kings movement are calling for a strong visual display of unity. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends, family, and American flags to send a clear, peaceful message: The United States belongs to its people—not to kings.

The rallies come in direct response to what participants describe as authoritarian actions by President Trump, including the ongoing Republican-led government shutdown, which has left countless families without income.

With more than 2,700 peaceful protests scheduled across the country, the day is shaping up to be one of the largest coordinated demonstrations in recent U.S. history. The movement first gained traction earlier this year, when over 5 million people took part in the inaugural No Kings protest on June 14, 2025.

“This Saturday, we must courageously show up,” one organizer said. “We cannot let stand the inhumane and dangerous policies being inflicted on the American people and others living in this country.”

The rallies aim to amplify growing opposition to what protesters describe as a power grab by the Trump administration and to show that democratic resistance is alive and well—from rural towns to major metropolitan centers.
