Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) will join her fellow California lawmakers, including Reps. Ted Lieu (CA-36), Brad Sherman (CA-32), and George Whitesides (CA-27), as well as several Republican Members of Congress, for a fire recovery briefing with the newly elected President of the United States on Friday, January 24.

The briefing will focus on the aftermath of recent wildfires that have ravaged parts of Southern California.
Last week, Rep. Chu spearheaded an effort to formally invite then-President-elect to visit the destruction caused by the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, areas heavily impacted by the devastating blazes.
Rep. Chu noted that while the President is scheduled to visit the Palisades area and meet with affected communities there, he will not be visiting northern Pasadena or Altadena, which has been home to a vibrant Black community for generations. She emphasized the importance of hearing from residents and first responders in these areas as well.
“I will continue pushing him to make time to see our area and hear from the survivors and first responders there,” she said. “No one can leave those conversations blaming the victims for the scope of devastation from the hurricane-force firestorms. Just as America has done with federal disaster assistance for our entire history, aid to Southern California should come with no strings attached.”
Rep. Chu stressed that political gamesmanship should never stand in the way of much-needed relief, highlighting the urgency of providing help to those affected by these catastrophic events.
“The people here have suffered too much,” she said. “We should never play politics holding up or denying the relief people need to continue healing, recovering, and rebuilding from natural disasters.”
The briefing will be an opportunity for lawmakers to work together to push for swift federal disaster aid for the region as recovery efforts continue.

That idiot doesn’t realize that Black folks are not the only ethnic group that lives in the Northern Pasadena/Altadena area. How dare he only visit the Pacific Palusades community. How dare he politicize these victims of historic devastation. Oh, that’s right . . . we’re dealing with third grade school playground mentality here! Shame on the media for creating this illusion too. They have greatly influenced his decision I’m sure.
