During the latest South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD) Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Angela Baxter unveiled her strategic 100-day plan, which is designed to build a foundation for continued academic excellence and a stronger sense of community within the district. The plan is centered around four key themes: engagement and communication, student achievement, collaborative governance, and fiscal responsibility.

“South Pasadena Unified offers a rich history of academic excellence,” said Baxter. “Working together includes moving forward and maintaining the district’s critical progress while learning about each other and all the tremendous educational options and programs available for students.”
As part of her transition into the role, Baxter is prioritizing building relationships with students, educators, administrators, and families. She plans to be actively engaged with the community by visiting school sites, observing classrooms, and focusing on both social-emotional development and academic performance. By spending time in the schools, she aims to better understand the needs of both staff and students and strengthen communication between all stakeholders.
Understanding the importance of transparency and collaboration, Baxter is committed to leading the district with a clear and open approach. “In the next few months, I will listen, learn, reflect, and lead,” she shared. “The 100-day plan maps out what I plan to prioritize for the students and families of South Pasadena.”
Dr. Baxter’s leadership will be guided by a deep awareness of the district’s fiscal challenges. She emphasized that all of her initiatives will take into account the ongoing budgetary concerns, ensuring that decisions made will reflect a balance between educational quality and financial responsibility.
Dr. Baxter officially assumed the role of Superintendent on July 1, 2025, following the retirement of Dr. Geoff Yantz. The SPUSD Board of Education selected her as the district’s new leader in May 2025, entrusting her with continuing the district’s legacy of excellence while embracing new opportunities for growth and innovation.
