Although winds were strong throughout the day, its force picked up drastically around 7:00 pm, when the power went out. The ensuing Palisades and Eaton fires are also the cause of over 300,000 residents going dark, according to statistics released by PowerOutage.com.
Upon the power going out, residents stepped outside into the dark, flashlights out, seeing if others were experiencing the same thing, the foggy orange moon looming above the city and smokey air permeating throughout the area. For about five hours, the only light sources were coming from candles, flashlights, and car headlights outside, until 11:30 pm, when the power came back on. Street headlights, front porch lights, and indoor lights came alive once more, but it was short lived. The power cut out once again at 12:35 am, eventually coming back on at 12:54 am.
Wednesday, Jan. 8, most South Pasadena residents have power, but there are a few areas that are still affected, like some residents on Orange Grove Ave. People have relocated to local cafés and businesses that have power outlets to charge their electronics.
Air quality in Los Angeles is at 345. It is important to stay inside and avoid breathing in the hazardous air, and stay prepared for possible evacuation. Live Eaton Fire updates are here.
