High-Speed DUI Pursuit Ends in Arrest
The following night, on Friday, August 8, 2025, at approximately 10:10 pm, two South Pasadena officers observed a vehicle speeding and swerving in the 1800 block of Fremont Avenue.
When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop for multiple vehicle code violations, the driver failed to yield and ran a red light at Mission Street, triggering a high-speed pursuit. The chase continued northbound on Fremont Avenue and onto the westbound 210 Freeway.
Due to the suspect’s excessive speed, officers discontinued the pursuit and relied on aerial assistance from a Pomona Police Department helicopter. The suspect exited at the 2 Freeway interchange, abandoned the vehicle, and fled on foot.
With the assistance of the helicopter unit, South Pasadena officers located and arrested the suspect on a nearby freeway embankment without further incident. He was identified as Luis Lopez, 25, of Monrovia.
Lopez was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for felony evading and driving under the influence (DUI). He was transported to Pasadena City Jail for booking and housing.
