The department has received multiple inquiries from residents seeking clarity on how these federal actions may impact their safety and rights.
In response, the South Pasadena Police Department has reiterated its commitment to upholding its 2017 policy on immigration enforcement, which aligns with the California Values Act (SB 54). This law ensures that state and local law enforcement agencies, including those within South Pasadena, will not engage in immigration enforcement activities. Specifically, the policy prohibits the use of local resources for the investigation, detention, or arrest of individuals solely for immigration-related issues.
The department’s policy reflects a broader state initiative designed to protect the safety and well-being of all Californians, regardless of their immigration status. By adhering to the principles of the California Values Act, the South Pasadena Police Department emphasizes its dedication to serving the entire community equitably, without discrimination based on immigration status or national origin.
“The Department is committed to equitably serving everyone in our community, recognizing the dignity of all those we encounter,” said the department in a statement.
The department reassured the public that their safety remains a top priority, and regardless of immigration status, all individuals in South Pasadena will have access to essential services without fear of immigration enforcement.
