– Tech Help Sessions at South Pasadena Public Library
Beginning September 6, 2024, Tech Help for adults returns to the South Pasadena Public Library on Fridays from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
Adults who need basic tech assistance using their phones, tablets, or laptops are encouraged to drop by the library during the sessions and confer with a teen volunteer who will help them to use their devices. Attendees should bring their charged devices and other pertinent information, such as user names and passwords, that they will need to access their accounts. No pre-registration is required to participate.

– Self-Care Awareness Month Event
In celebration of Self-Care Awareness Month, the South Pasadena Public Library invites the community to a special event on September 17 at 6:00 pm in the Library Community Room (1115 El Centro Street).
This free program is designed to promote emotional well-being and self-care practices for adults. Registration is required and can be completed at southpasadenaca.gov/register. The evening will feature a workshop led by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, focusing on emotional well-being and wellness. Attendees will gain valuable insight into managing stress, enhancing mental health, and cultivating a balanced lifestyle.
Bath bombs
In addition to the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on self-care activity by creating their own bath bombs. This creative session aims to provide a relaxing and enjoyable way for individuals to incorporate self-care into their routines. Open to adults only and free of charge, with limited spaces requiring registration to secure a spot.

– Scary Story Contest for Children and Teens
In celebration of Spooky Season, the South Pasadena Public Library will hold its Fourth Annual Scary Story Contest for children and teens.
Youth in kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to submit entries to the South Pasadena Public Library from Wednesday, August 14 through Saturday, September 14. Submissions should be delivered to the South Pasadena Public Library Children’s Reference desk. The winners will be announced in mid-October.
Each submission must include an official entry form, which is available at the Children’s Reference desk, and on the “Children” section of the Library’s website.
Guidelines
One entry per person. Submitted stories can be up to 500 words, or 1 page typed. No weapons may be used in the story. All entries must be the original work of the student. Parents may transcribe a young child’s story. Entries, which will be judged by the Children’s Librarians, will be judged based on creativity and originality. The winning compositions will be featured on the library’s website and social media.
The Scary Story Contest is sponsored by the Friends of the South Pasadena Public Library.

– Fall Storytime Schedule
The Library’s Fall Storytimes will return the week of September 17.
Toddler and Preschool Storytimes will be offered in the Library Community Room. Family Storytime will be held on the Oxley Street side of Library Park, weather permitting. Attendees should bring a blanket to sit on the grass.
Children’s Librarians will share stories, fingerplays, flannel boards, and music with children during storytime. Preschool Storytimes, for ages 3-5, will be held on Tuesdays, September 14 through November 19 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am. Toddler Storytimes, for ages 1-3, will be held on Thursdays, September 19 through November 21 from 10:30 am to 10:50 am and 11:00 am to 11:20 am. Family Storytimes, for all ages, will be held on Saturdays, September 21 through November 23 from 10:30 am to 11:00 am.

– New Class Offering at the South Pasadena Senior Center
The South Pasadena Senior Center announced the launch of a new class designed specifically for older adults. Gymnasium for the Mind is a dynamic program of directed games and exercises that gives your brain a workout and promotes a wide range of cognitive functions in a fun and engaging way.
The class will be held on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm starting September 4, 2024 through October 9, 2024. The class is open to adults 55 years and older. Advanced registration is required. To register online, visit southpasadenaca.gov/classes.
