The City of South Pasadena has announced the appointment of Melissa Snyder as its new Community Services Director, marking a significant step forward for the city’s parks, recreation, and community programming efforts.

Snyder brings more than a decade of experience in parks and recreation, program management, and municipal operations. Her background reflects a strong commitment to delivering high-quality, community-focused services.
Since joining South Pasadena in March 2020, Snyder has held several key leadership roles, most recently serving as Deputy Director of Community Services. In that position, she oversaw daily department operations, including senior and recreation services, program management, grant administration, and fiscal oversight. Her responsibilities also included budget management and contract administration, ensuring that programs aligned with city priorities while operating efficiently.
In addition to her operational leadership, Snyder has played an important role in broader city initiatives. She has contributed to strategic planning efforts and public communications, working closely with City leadership, commissions, and the City Council to strengthen and expand community services.
Among her notable achievements, Snyder led the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy that significantly boosted community engagement across the city’s social media platforms. She also directed the procurement and rollout of a new recreation management software system, improving registration processes, enhancing data management, and increasing overall departmental efficiency.
City officials expressed confidence in Snyder’s leadership, noting that her experience and vision will support the continued growth of programs and services designed to foster learning, connection, and community engagement throughout South Pasadena.
