With rain expected this week, several San Gabriel Valley communities are making sandbags and other flood-prevention materials available to help residents protect homes and property.
By News Desk
– South Pasadena
In South Pasadena, a self-serve sandbag station has been set up at the Arroyo Seco Golf Course, 1055 Lohman Lane. Free sand is available, but residents must bring their own bags and shovels. City officials recommend filling sandbags about halfway and placing them near doors, garages, and other low points where water may collect. Residents are advised not to stack bags directly against buildings and to properly dispose of used sand and bags after the storm.
– Pasadena
The City of Pasadena is also offering free sandbags to residents while supplies last. Eligible residents may receive up to 10 pre-filled sandbags or use self-serve sand and bags at Fire Station 37 (3430 E. Foothill Blvd.) and Fire Station 38 (1150 Linda Vista Ave.). Both locations are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and proof of residency is required. Contractors are not permitted to pick up sandbags.
– Sierra Madre
In Sierra Madre, sandbags are available 24 hours a day at Sierra Vista Park near the Rose Float Barn and the entrance to the pickleball courts. Supplies are limited to 25 sandbags per household, and residents must bring their own shovels. Distribution is limited to Sierra Madre residents.
– Altadena
Altadena residents can access a temporary sandbag distribution site during the 2025–2026 storm season, which runs from October 27 through April 15. The site is located at the Los Angeles County Public Works Fleet Maintenance Yard, 252 Mountain View Street.
– Monrovia
Meanwhile, Monrovia is preparing for this week’s rain by providing gravel bins and bags at Recreation Park, 620 S. Shamrock Avenue. Materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Residents throughout the region are encouraged to prepare early and take advantage of these resources to help reduce the risk of flooding during upcoming storms.
